Introduction about research work:
Understanding the bond strengths requires an intense knowledge on charge density distribution. Hitherto, published research work reported the interactions between the tetrahedral (A) site and octahedral (B) site based on the values of interatomic distances and angles. There is not much work has been reported so far on bond strengths between atoms at A-site and B-site of ferrites by deploying maximum entropy method (MEM) techniques in the unit cell of ferrites. The advantage of employing MEM method is that this method can be used to determine the numerical values of the bond strength between various sites (A-A, A-B and B-B sites) instead of predicting the strengthening/weakening of the various sites interactions based on the interatomic distances and angles value, in the unit cell of ferrite. This motivated to carry out intense research on the bond strengths and other characterization on ferrites. The physical and chemical properties of atoms or molecules mostly depend on the charge density distribution, bond strength etc. Hence, in this doctoral work, the following samples were synthesized and studied for their bond strength between various sites (A-A, A-B and B-B sites) using MEM.
Materials interest:
Ferrite materials
•Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 - sintered at 700°C to 1400°C.
•Mn0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4 & Co0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4
•Ni0.53Cu0.12Zn0.35Fe2O4
•Mg0.2Cu0.3Zn0.5Fe2O4
•Ni0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 and
•NiFe2O4
In this work, Rietveld refinement method was employed to refine the raw X-ray diffraction data using the software program JANA 2006 and Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) was used to evaluate the mid bond electron density values between the A-A, A-B and B-B site atoms in the unit cell of ferrite. PRIMA (Practice Iterative MEM Analyses) software, which is a MEM analysis program, was employed to evaluate the mid bond electron densities from the X-ray diffraction data and VESTA (Visualization of Electron/Nuclear densities and Structures) software was used to plot the 3D, 2D and 1D plot of electron densities in this doctoral work. Grain size of the samples synthesized in the present doctoral work was determined using the software GRAIN (Saravanan R, GRAIN software) written by Dr. R. Saravanan.
